Southwest has a monthly fare calendar, just click on "Try our low fare calendar".
The best time to book is usually mid week but since you are leaving on a Friday, fares tend to be more. I'd just watch the rates for a couple of weeks, if you wait 3 weeks or less before the flight you risk it going up.

I have been searching for flights for weeks to So. Cal. (I live in Boston) the prices are outrageous. I fly to So. Cal every 6 months or so and this is the highest it has been in a while.....
Delta has the best deals into San Diego out of anyone the last time I checked, but not great......

I agree, Delta is good for when we want to go East from here. Southwest tends to be lower for shorter flights for us, like traveling around the West coast or to Texas.

If youre going to L.A. I know that Virgin Air has started flying out of most major airports and is pretty reasonable as well!

Just keep checking on a regular basis. I know "they" say that the best time to look at flights (I think) is 3 PM on Tuesday afternoon but I have found cheap flights anytime from Saturday night at 9 PM to Thursday afternoon.
Just keep checking.

That's what I thought. But I at least got better travel times. And it's weekend travel so it was higher no matter what.
